Concrete City:Jonathan’s Descent
A TransMedia Narrative Collaboration
ART – ENGLISH – IST – PSYCHOLOGY
Jonathan, completely unhinged by Elise’s suicide, packs his car and leaves home, unsure and uncaring of where he goes. Almost immediately, he stumbles upon an antique shop called Two Jacks, where he is greeted by a seated man playing solitaire who calls himself Lucius. Lucius welcomes Jonathan into his strange shop and encourages him to look around.
What Jonathan does not know is that Lucius is a shadowy figure with his own malicious intentions. In Two Jacks, Johnathan wanders into the “Employee’s Only” room and Lucius, knowing what will happen, does nothing. Jonathan is suddenly and mysteriously transported into Concrete City, and emerges through a wall out into the abandoned expanse.
To his left is swamp land; damp, humid and littered with frogs. To his right is desert; desolate and arid, inhabited with a few moths. Upon further inspection of the swamp-like area, he notices that small things change if he wills it to. Curious as to what else he could do in this new found realm he begins to explore his surroundings when he runs into a man with frog like traits. The frogman asks him who he is, and he responds sarcastically, “I am the prophet…!” The frogman instantly agrees with him, apologizing for not noticing earlier and hands him a book. Jonathan becomes leader of the frogmen of Concrete City and revels in his self-proclaimed power.
His power trip is interrupted when he encounters Matthew, leader of the moth men who also has the power to manipulate reality. Matthew and Jonathan meet and fight over who has ultimate control over Concrete City.
