We found that we have collected so much data, that not all of our data is being displayed on the Smithsonian website (they display a maximum of 17 entries). We have created spreadsheets for each of our trees that are available for viewing and download, so that we can share this data set with students, instructors, and anyone else that is interested. Each of the trees we monitor is listed below and linked to a page with the gap width and additional information, such as:
- Latin Name of tree species
- Tree Type: needle leaf or broad leaf
- Crown Class of tree: totally lighted, partially lighted, totally shaded
- Initial Tree DBH: Recorded on March 5, 2012, for all of the trees. This is the measure of distance directly across the middle of the tree at 1.3 meters above the ground. We calculated this using the circumference measurement and this formula: Diameter =circumference/π
- Coordinates: latitude and longitude location of the tree on campus
Each spreadsheet contains the date of measurement, measured gap width (in mm), temperature condition (over the past two weeks), precipitation conditions (over the past two weeks), and additional notes.
Temperature (maximum and minimum) and precipitation data as measured at Philadelphia International Airport (~15 miles from campus) can be accessed and downloaded from this Google Spreadsheet.
