Ariana Grande has been in the news a lot over the past year. From the bombing at her show in Manchester, UK, to breaking up with Mac Miller, to her whirlwind romance with Pete Davidson, she has dominated the headlines.

In the last 3 months alone she has dealt with a broken engagement, the death of an ex-boyfriend, and thousands of Mac Miller fans sending her hate mail due to their belief that she “caused his death.” Needless to say, Ariana Grande has been going through it emotionally. As a result from this, she released this song, “thank u, next” as a way to move on from all the drama that has followed her in the past year.

Even after the song was released, her fans were going crazy over it. They loved the self-love message she was sending, and they also were living for the name drops she has in the first verse. The first verse literally is her listing her exes and how she is thankful for each of them, saying that they’ve shaped her into who she is today.

The music video has been said to be “insane,” “the best video I’ve seen in years,” and “phenomenal” on Twitter. Essentially, Grande took the concept from famous movies and turned them into a video. She used the concepts from Mean Girls, Bring It On, 13 going on 30, and Legally Blonde. That’s also without mentioning the celebrity cameos throughout the whole video. Stars ranging from Troye Sivan to the actual actor who played Aaron Samuels reprising his role were featured. It was, without a doubt, epic. The music video does a great job of showing each of her exes as well, as each one is pictured in a “burn book,” aside from Mac Miller, who Grande revealed is in picture frames on her bedside table.
