I have decided to revise my passion blog for this semester! Previously, I discussed, reviewed, and recommended different restaurants in downtown State College. Seeing as how I have reviewed the majority of local restaurants, I felt it was necessary to switch my passion blog focus to another topic. I have decided to begin reviewing and recommending different shows and movies available on Netflix for my passion blog this semester. I have been using of Netflix for years to stream movies and television shows and I have many recommendations to share. In each blog, I will introduce the television show or movie, state why I am recommending it, and provide my overall rating with no spoilers. Whether you watch Netflix to relax after a long day, binge shows, or have movie nights, Netflix can bring pretty much everyone some form of happiness and/or entertainment.

The first Netflix selection I will be recommending is the movie, What Happened To Monday. What Happened To Monday is a thriller movie which falls under the action, adventure, and scientific fiction genre. The movie came out in 2017 and is rated TV-MA, mostly due to gore, violence, and dark themes.
What Happened To Monday takes place within a society in the future that has a very strict one child per family law to deal with overpopulation. If a woman gives birth to more than one child then the child is taken from the home and is supposedly frozen using new technology, so that one day the children may be brought back when the population is under control.

Shortly after the law is established, a woman gives birth to seven identical girls before dying from a complication during the birth. The grandfather keeps the number of children birthed a secret and decides to raise them all on his own. You may be thinking- how is this possible with the one child per family law? Well, since there are seven identical girls he names them each a day of the week and they all assume the identity of Karen Settman on their day of the week. Monday can go outside on Monday to assume the identity as Karen, Tuesday can go outside on Tuesday as Karen and so on. The movie flashes back and forth between the past and present- from the girls learning how to survive as one person to thirty years in the future where they continue living out the identity as adults.

Everything is going to plan for the sisters until Monday goes missing. The six sisters have to work together to solve the mystery of where their sister went as they uncover secrets about the society and themselves.
In my opinion, the movie is fantastic. I do not usually watch thriller movies but this one had me enthralled- I was on the edge of my theoretical seat the entire movie. As a scientific fiction thriller, there are important themes mentioned such as overpopulation and climate change which drives the plot of the movie and are very relatable to our current and future society. Additionally, the acting was phenomenal. Noomi Rapace’s ability to take on seven different personalities to act for the seven sisters was amazing to watch. I rate the movie a 9/10 and I recommend checking it out! I will be linking the trailer below if you are interested in seeing a sneak peek. If you do decide to watch it, let me know if you end up liking it or not!

Loved this movie! I watched this movie a few years ago when it came out. It took me a little while to make sense of the characters and the flashbacks, but once I did I was on the edge of my seat. And the plot twists! Great movie.
Really cool concept for a movie! I usually like sci-fi movies, so I may have to give this one try! I’m curious how the rest of the society will work, aside from just the interaction between the main characters. Definitely added to my watch list.
