If you are building your own drone, the basic flow remains the same as buying, but with a couple of twists described below:
- Let us know what you intend to build via firstname.lastname@example.org. We will verify the drone can fly under Part 107, or identify waivers eventually needed to operate it. We will also work with you to ensure it will be acceptable to University insurance.
- Design and build it
- Register it with the FAA at https://registermyuas.faa.gov/
- Pass the registration information to email@example.com (registration# and date of registration). If the drone is already in the University livery, we will insure it directly. If it is a new type, we will have to complete a questionnaire for insurance that will confirm it will be safe for operations.
- Receive notification that the drone is insured.
