Fully Supported Operating Systems:
The UBI Administrators are equipped to test and support the following operating systems.
- AIX V6.1
- AIX V7.1
- RHEL 6
- RHEL 7
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012 R2
Partially Supported Operating Systems:
The following operating systems are supported by IBM, but the UBI administrators may not be able to test or support them fully. Customers may choose to use the Spectrum Protect client for UBI on these operating systems at their discretion, but should be aware that support will be best-effort and may not be able to resolve all problems.

- SLES 10
- SLES 11
- SLES 12
- Ubuntu 14.04
- HP-UX 11i V3
- Solaris 10
- Solaris 11

Desktop Operating Systems:
These operating systems are NOT permitted to use the UBI service, even if they are supported by IBM.
- Mac OSX 10.x
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
- Windows 8
- Windows 8.1
- Windows 10
This list is not exhaustive.
Any computer which is only intended to be used by a single user at a time is considered a “Desktop” even if it utilizes a “Server” Operating System. This includes lab computers, individual workstations, loaner laptops, and kiosks.
If you are not sure whether your computer is considered a “Desktop” or a “Server”, please contact the UBI administrators at backup@psu.edu with a description of the purpose your computer serves.
