ABSTRACT:
Rather than the sole reliance on pharmacological interventions in the treatment of Dementia, it is imperative for treatment of Dementia to include both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Music-based interventions can be used to complement existing pharmacologic treatment in patients with Dementia. In researching how music-based interventions can be used to help manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of Dementia, a new form of treatment can be integrated to decrease the reliance on pharmacological interventions. By increasing music-based interventions, there is less of a risk for harm to the behavioral dementia patient. By analyzing appropriate information from multiple different sources, the project can help to identify the effectiveness of music-based interventions to help manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of Dementia in addition to pharmacological interventions compared to those who utilize only pharmacological interventions.
