Easy Life

To begin this series, I wanted to start with one of my personal favorite bands, Easy Life. They are an indie/alternative band from the United Kingdom. Since they released their first single in 2017, Pockets, the band has grown immensely and are becoming more and more well-known. Recently, Easy Life has been able to gain some serious momentum in the UK with their most recent album Junk Food. They have since reached over one million listeners on Spotify. Watch a brief video here to listen to Easy Life discuss where they have come from and how things have changed for them with their growing popularity.

In order to give you an idea of the type of music Easy Life produces, I’d describe their sound as lyrical. The flow of their songs is relaxed and rhythmic, their lyrics transporting you to a different place in each of their songs. I’d even compare their songs to the likes of a poem. It’s rare to find artists these days that create vivid and expressive music, which makes this band all the more exceptional.

To conclude my first blog post, I wanted to give you readers some song recommendations from Easy Life. One of their most recent songs, peanut butter, was actually released in May of this year. Inspired by the quarantine the entire world faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the song displays the story of a couple in lockdown. The lead singer, Murray, describes how they are spending their quarantine days lounging around and dreaming of the future of their relationship.

My next recommendation is Nice Guys, which is off of their most recent album, Junk Food. Unlike their usual music, this song has a more upbeat and high energy sound, but still contains the deep, meaningful lyrics that Easy Life is known for. The song explains how Murray often prefers to live the single life rather than be caught in the baggage of a relationship, preferring to live life to the fullest without getting involved. The catchy, almost bubbly, music pairs well with the lively and descriptive lyrics.

My final recommendation is Slow Motion from their 2018 EP titled Creature Habits Mixtape. Every time I hear this song I feel as though I’m transported to a sunny summer day, driving on an open road, windows down, wind blowing, and just enjoying the views of the world around me. Once again, Easy Life brings their poetic lyrics into this song, describing how they feel as though it is rare these days that people actually take a look around and appreciate life. This is one of their many songs that are great works to just listen to, but can also allow for deeper analyzation as they contain important messages in their lyrics.

If you like songs that have a melodic sound, poetic lyrics, and can serve as a form of escapism, I highly recommend listening to Easy Life. If you are willing to check them out, let me know which of my recommendations you enjoy best, or if you find other songs by them that you enjoy. I hope I was able to introduce you to something exciting and new!

I am in desperate need of new music right now! I overplayed my songs during quarantine and not a lot of new music has come out so I’ve been stuck. I will definitely give Easy Life a listen!
