Recently in the US we see in the news that there has been protests that have resulted in injured police officers or shootings that ended in the fatalities of police officers. Because of this misconception that all police are bad and that they are all the same after the recent fatal shooting of young African American people. They believe that all cops are killers and that by harming just any cop that this is okay. But in truth it is not okay because not every officer you see on the street or patrolling the neighborhood is a bad guy. There are plenty of cops that are nice people and help out in poorer neighborhoods or just get involved in the community more than just being a cop. I have relatives that our cops and are loved by the people they meet out on the street or the people they work with. They are nice people but are being grouped with the bad cops who commit acts of racism and because of that are suffering dearly for being associated with them. Now a days you are either a supporter of the police and “white privilege” or anti-police and anti “white privilege”. There are more side than that but those are the two side that people group you into.
people talk about how they are going to arm themselves against the police and fight back but the problems is that when they do this so called fighting back that they end up hurting innocent police officers who had nothing to do with whatever they are getting retaliation for. Look at an incident that happened in New York after Eric Gardner was killed by the police. Two random police officers were sitting in their cruiser minding their own business when a man decided two come up to their cruiser with a loaded gun and shoot both of them in the head. The random cops to you both they were brother, sisters, husbands, and fathers to people and they were loved. I found out that one of those cops was the father of one of the kids that goes to my brother’s college in Maine. Because of this act by this person a son no father just because he wears a uniform that people do not like or support. This act by this man did not accomplish anything by any means other than to raise the already existing tension between police and minority groups.
Take a look at another incident that is a more well-known such as the Dallas shooting of five police officers. They were ambushed and gunned down by a man who supported the Black lives matter movement and was a supporter of violence against police as a way to fight back. How is that justice for what the dead of an African American? How is going out and killing random people called justice? To me that is just plain and simple violence.
What do you think of this whole situation? Is this justice or just violence?
Matthew says
I believe that in no way, shape or form is this justice. They may think that they are justified in these actions; however, they gain nothing from it. Justice as an entity is extremely covoluted. There are numerous meanings, none of them concrete, that defines it. One could argue that a man killing his wife’s murderer is justified; however, he then sinks down to that level and becomes a criminal himself. I am not sure what I would do if I was in that situation. My opinion may change.
The way that this country is headed in regards to Black/Blue/All Lives Matter is having detrimental effects to the nation as a whole. It is ripping the unity apart and creating even more violence than there was or should be. Yes, there is racism in the world. But if one racist cop kills someone, does that mean that ALL cops are racist? I would disagree. I would say that that one cop should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, but nothing more and nothing less. This situation is extremely unfortunate for the country, and is becoming an important factor in presidential debates for the years to come.
