Audience

This module has been designed to be used by

  • language program directors in pre-service orientation courses for novice teachers;
  • language program coordinators to supplement weekly meetings with graduate teaching assistants;
  • individual novice or experienced language teachers who wish to advance their professional knowledge and skills.

 

Special Features

The dynamic, interactive nature of this resource creates a highly individualized, self-directed learning environment which helps teachers to become familiar with and develop strategies for dealing with the challenges of teaching both heritage and domestic language learners. It is not designed to show how teaching should be done. Instead, its power comes from the fact that it provides a window into the perception and perspectives of students themselves, showcasing the complexities of both heritage and domestic language learners in LCTL classrooms. This professional development resource will enable teachers:

  • to become self-directed in constructing their own knowledge;
  • to use their knowledge to address real-world teaching challenges;
