Describe your experience studying Russian in the summer intensive institute.

I: what were your experiences like in the summer intensive institute

S: um it was very positive I really liked it a lot um I had to it’s five hours everyday so it started very early too I had to like it um it was great because we had a lot of personal attention and uh each exam we got we would get have corrections just for our improvement not the whole class necessarily but focusing on what we need to work on as an individual (.) professors were very good about kind of advising you in ways that helped you there were different personalities I am much of structured learner I think and I like to kind of put things together grammatically I really focus on that because I speak other languages so I understand grammar whenever it helps me understand better but there were people who were different types of learners we had visual learners then we had people who needed to hear things so you kind of got a little bit of everything and it was interesting to see how the teachers differentiate their teaching styles for the different students

Have you noticed a difference in students’ motivation based on whether or not the course is required or elected? If so, what challenges does this raise for your instructional practices? How have you typically addressed these challenges?
