What are your strengths as a language learner?

S:  My strengths as a language learner is that I try to I try to keep everything like I try to keep everything approach it with an open mind that was another thing I learned from French because they said what they tell us that French is gonna be it’s gonna be easy because it’s so close to English(.) wrong the grammar is so much different vocab is minimally similar and you don’t have have to but in English you don’t have to worry about gender so that was one thing that I was always I was approaching Eng- I was approaching French as I would write as I would write it and say it in English that’s not the way you do it so now with Russian I just I just tried to accept things that this is how it is okay that’s how it is and try to do it like that and not not try to think of alright this is how I do in English let me say in Russian let me use Russian words but say it in English still and I just wanted to make sure that I just make sure that I keep an open  mind get that accent get that accent as minimal as possible get the grammar as good as I can and just make sure that’s accept everything how it is and I think that as an English pers- as person speaking English it might look kind of weird but that’s how they say it that’s how I better say it

Reflections – Are there certain strengths or weaknesses that you have observed as being characteristic of heritage or domestic language learners? If so, what were they and how did you adjust your teaching to meet their unique linguistic and or educational needs? What techniques do you use to evaluate your students strengths and weaknesses prior to formal assessments? What strategies do you use to capitalize on your students strengths? What strategies do you use to develop areas of weakness?

Several of the domestic learners in this section say they struggle with pronunciation and listening skills as a result of lack of input. On the other hand, not surprisingly, the heritage language learners identify these skills as strengths due to the authentic input of friends and family. To what extent do you incorporate authentic input into the course either in or outside of the classroom?
