What a Time to Be Alive. That is the title of Drake and Future’s mixtape which released on September 20, 2015. This collaboration was a source of much excitement in the hip-hop community and many were awaiting its arrival. Endless tweets and Facebook posts were created by fans and critics alike, voicing their opinions and often their excitement in regards to this musical creation. I, for one, was anxious to hear for myself what these two artists would bring to the table, especially since there are rumors circulating about J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar having their own collaboration album.
After listening to the mixtape, I would have to say that I was actually underwhelmed. There were some good songs on there but in the end, it left much to be desired. I think due to the track record of these rappers and the clout that they both have, many expected their creation to be much greater than it was. However, it was far from terrible. Songs such as “Jumpman”, “30 for 30” and “Diamonds Dancing” were hits among the public, but not all of the tracks shared this same approval.
All in all, I would have to say that Drake fans and the “FutureHive” (Future fans) were satisfied with their project but were far from amazed. These two artists who are known for their amazing beats, their unique sound, and their fantastically worded punch lines did not really deliver to the best of their ability. But hey, not every song an artist releases is a hit, right?
