Initially I was considering the paradigm shifts of either beauty standards or heteronormativity, but I have decided to amend that a bit. I think the two that I will be deciding between are heteronormativity and hip-hop (its evolution).
So the topic of heteronormativity is something that was discussed in one of the lectures of my African American Studies class. We were primarily talking about how gender, a social construct, changes and is different from society to society, but heteronormativity plays a bit of a role in the gender ideology. I think it is interesting how this has transformed, especially over recent years, and how less people are adopting this ideal.
Fact: Heteronormativity is defined as “the belief that people fall into distinct and complementary genders (man and woman) with natural roles in life. It asserts that sexuality is the only sexual orientation or only norm, and states that sexual and marital relations are most (or only) fitting between people of opposite sexes.
There have been more protests and demonstrations for gay rights.
Example: pride parade
Changes in social behavior and philosophy; a lot more emphasis and equality (basic civil rights)
