As you all may know, my posts are typically about hip-hop artists, songs, or musical discrepancies but I decided to change it up a bit and dedicate this post to the fans. However, I am not talking about the regular fans, this post is specifically for all of you stans out there.
In case you don’t know who or what a stan is, a stan is a stalker-ish or extremely overzealous, almost maniacal fan. Just think about the character Stan who is the subject of the song “Stan” by Eminem. He was a crazed fan who had a room with walls covered in Eminem pictures. Throughout the song, Stan’s fanmail is read out and we see just how creepy he is. At the end of the song, Stan is furious with him and is recording a tape to tell him about it while speeding down the road, under the influence with his pregnant girlfriend tied up in the trunk.
Now “Stan” is definitely an extreme scenario, but that doesn’t mean that all of the other stans out there don’t take it too far. Some of the ones that I have encountered are the Selena Gomez stans and the Future Hive, but the most notorious is undoubtedly the BeyHive, which refuses to tolerate any Beyoncé slander.
The most recent victims of their attacks have been Rachael Ray and Rachel Roy. If you read my previous post you saw that in Beyoncé’s new album Lemonade, she mentioned a “Becky with the good hair” who, after suspicious past history and an intriguing Instagram caption, many believe to be fashion designer Rachel Roy. Unfortunately for Rachael Ray, she was confused with the designer and many members of the BeyHive stormed her Instagram and left countless comments (this is still going on by the way). But after the confusion was cleared, many left Ray’s Instagram and headed over to Roy’s to begin the harassment of her social media.
Now not all stans are as relentless as they BeyHive who are in a league of their own, some are just creeps. These are the stans who stick up for the celebrity no matter what they do, even if it is wrong. And the ones who obsess over the celebrities, following their every move, crying hysterically when meeting them and even when they haven’t. I’m sure we can all recall the “Leave Brittney alone!” video from a few years ago.
All in all, stans just take things to the extreme. It is one thing to like or appreciate a celebrity, but these stans have turned it into nothing short of worship. It’s creepy and weird.

I will never understand stans. I think you have to live a pretty sad and boring life to get that wrapped up in the affairs of someone else, much less someone you have never met. I think these people should focus their time and energy towards themselves and those around them rather than constantly stalking social media and E! News for mind-numbing gossip that does nothing to better them in any shape or form. Read a book, you hooligans.
