Pileated Woodpecker
Pileated woodpeckers make large, distinctive holes in trees as a result of many hours of work. They are seeking insects that tunnel through the trees. This woodpecker devoted time to these holes just outside Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, located in central Pennsylvania, about 12 miles south of State College and Penn State’s University Park.
Located in the heart of central Pennsylvania, Shaver’s Creek has been connecting people to people and people to place since 1976. They provide educational and recreational opportunities for families, schools, corporate groups, and Penn State students.
