Anna Nichole Voelz

WCPC President

Hello everyone from sunny Georgia! My name is Anna Voelz and I am honored to be this year’s President of the WCPC. I am a military wife and mommy of two. My son Matthew is four; he is incredibly talented musically and unbelievably smart for his age! My daughter Gabriella is two; her smile and laugh could make anyone’s heart dance! My husband is an Air Traffic Controller for the United States Air Force and we are from Chicago but stationed here in Warner Robins, GA. My husband is also a student at Penn State World Campus part time for his Associates in Business. My family is my world. I am a huge, and proud, psychology and anatomy nerd! I am so in love with psychology, more specifically Neuropsychology and Positive psychology. I aspire to get my PhD in Positive/Behavioral Neuropsychology. The brain fascinates me like nothing other and so does the power that one has over their attitude. It is amazing how you, whether you know it or not, can change your thinking patterns in a positive way and learn how to live a happier more fulfilling life! I highly recommend to any student, regardless of their major, to take Positive Psychology or PSYCH 243. It is life changing if you apply the knowledge given to you through that course! I also have a passion for music. In high school I was in Honors Choir where we got the pleasure to sing on the Today Show and at Carnegie Hall. I also was in the school plays and musicals. Now, I am trying to teach myself the guitar and my husband and I have been trying to make music together. Singing is a way for me to express any emotion; when I am mad I sing, when I am happy I sing, when I am sad I sing, when I am frustrated I sing! Very loudly I might add 😉 It always seems to help. When I study, I have solo piano music or “new age” relaxation music on. Music is a big part of my life 😉 I also love photography; more so finding beauty in objects or nature that most people tend to overlook. My family and I love nature walks. I also enjoy entertaining for the holidays. Being in a military town, some of our friends don’t have family nearby. I take great pleasure in making huge meals, making my famous home-made pierogies and just celebrating with our family of friends. I love to learn and also to encourage others to make the most of their life. I am very honored, pleased, and excited to be President this year! We have such great things planned! If you ever need anything, have questions, or just want to talk feel free to email me or Facebook me! Also, please never hesitate to get in there and start talking to other members, blogging, and talking on our Facebook page!

Laura Geddes

WCPC Vice President

My name is Laura Geddes and I am a 27 year old Army Wife and mother of two beautiful boys. We are currently stationed at Fort Bliss which is located in the mountains of El Paso, Texas. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and I miss it everyday! I am definitely a midwest city girl at heart! I am currently a junior/senior, and will be graduating next fall 2012. I absolutely love Psychology and have a deep seeded passion for it. I am always trying to figure people out, understand the workings of the brain, positive psychology, and what happens when trauma occurs to people and what happens after.

Since my husband is in the Army, we have gone through three deployments and numerous amounts of field exercises. We were stationed at Fort Hood when the shootings occurred and dealt with the aftermath. I have seen first hand the way soldiers and their families are treated after deployments, and the way PTSD is treated or pushed to the side. I see the inadequacies of the military health care system, and that is why I have decided to go into the military psychology field after I graduate. I feel like as a doctor that we should do the best that we can even if that means pushing for a change. I want to work with soldiers and their families suffering from PTSD, TBI’s, and the other mental repercussions from the stressors of war and serving our country.

I really look forward to the exciting things that we have planned and want to accomplish this year. Psychology is exciting, and I really hope that each and everyone one of you reach out to one of us if you ever need anything!

Look forward to working with all of you!

Amber Schultz

WCPC Secretary

My name is Amber, or name sign, A-ACROSS-CHEST if you are ASL savvy, you will realize my attempt at some GLOSS there. ASL is my first language and my father and foster brother are Deaf, which is how through a series of events I won’t go into here, got me interested in Psychology. There are two things in life that I have a true passion for: American Sign Language (ASL) and Psychology. My purpose in studying psychology is to one day be able to blend my two passions together into my own office, so Deaf individuals can have psychological services without the need of an interpreter (direct communication). I also want to research the way psychological diseases affect deaf individuals (Neat Fact: Did you know that Deaf Schizophrenics also can experiences auditory hallucinations? ‘Hearing Voices’ is something that Deaf invididuals have described that is being researched because some claim that they mean “hear sound” not “see signs”… it is this sort of interesting phenomena that I want to research!). I love thinking outside the box and having long thought-provoking conversations with people (especially when the topic is psychology related). My facebook is not searchable, but if you want to add me, send me a message here with a way for me to find you on facebook, and I would be happy to add you. =) Also, please check out all of our various media sources: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and our new website!

Lastly, any questions you have don’t hesitate to ask me. Either here, or via email: als6031@psu.edu
