Whether your favorite Penn State team is men’s hockey, women’s volleyball, men’s lacrosse or one of the many other Division I teams that compete at University Park, there is no denying that it is exciting to support the Nittany Lions!

And while we may be known for having one of the largest football stadiums in the country, Penn State students and fans enjoyed an intimate, old-school experience with Return to Rec this past weekend. The Men’s Basketball team moved from their current home at the Bryce Jordan Center (which seats about 16,000) to their former home court at Rec Hall to compete in a one-time game against the Princeton Tigers.

With a seating capacity of approximately 6,000, and a student section that included fans right on the court, Return to Rec was not only a nostalgic experience for longtime fans of the Nittany Lions, but it was a truly unique athletic event for current Penn State students. In fact, Penn State fans have not been able to enjoy a home basketball game at Rec Hall since January 7, 1996.

If you know someone who went to the game (like me), you can search for them using this interactive panorama from the game – or, tag yourself if you were there. Although the team lost a tough game in OT, I think everyone in attendance would agree that the atmosphere was amazing and Return to Rec should become an annual event!
