WOE recently hosted a Halloween event in the Joel N. Myers Weather Center where we had a variety of fun and spooky Halloween events for kids to see. The kids had a great time seeing lots of spooky experiments, getting to go into the TV studio, and getting candy! Happy Halloween!!!!!!

Easterly Elementary School Science Fair
On October 21st, 2024, WOE traveled to Easterly Parkway Elementary School to present at their science fair. We had a table where we educated students about the formation of clouds and tornados through mini hand-boilers and tornadoes-in-a-bottle. It was great seeing all the students excited and engaged with all the activities and seeing them understand how these experiments translate to the real atmosphere.
March 18, 2023 Event — Discovery Space
WOE recently had the opportunity to partner with Discovery Space, a science center in State College, to educate kids on weather concepts and safety. We had a blast engaging with the kids and teaching them about the different types of clouds, how to make a tornado in a bottle, and how to use a weather station. It was inspiring to see the excitement and curiosity on the children’s faces as they learned about the fascinating world of weather. As a club, we are committed to continuing to share our knowledge and passion for weather with the community through outreach and education events like this one.

April 19th, 2022 Event
We enjoyed hosting a group of local elementary and middle school kids last week at the Walker Building!
Our educators talked to students about all the careers in meteorology and what meteorologists do. We also talked about how meteorologists predict the weather and how they do their jobs. They had fun seeing the weather center and being able to tour our TV studios.
Shoutout to all of our educators for helping out and especially Carol for giving a great tour of our TV studios!
Our First Event with Local Scout Troops
We had a lot of fun hosting our first event with the local scouts to help them earn their weather merit badge this past weekend!
Our educators also had some great conversations with scouts about weather safety and possible careers in meteorology. Dr. Jon Nese stopped by to talk to the scouts about local weather hazards and how weather alerts reach them. After earning their weather merit badge, the scouts were given a tour of the Joel N. Myers weather center and our two TV studios. They got to learn about how to present weather information to the public with the help of Marisa Ferger.
We want to thank all of our educators, Marisa Ferger, and Dr. Jon Nese for helping to make this event a success!
