Monitoring Sudan

I found this fascinating article on GIS cafe about efforts to use commercial satellites to monitor the military situation in southern Sudan. What is fascinating is that human rights groups are partnering with private satellite companies. I imagine that the CIA has better images, but they can’t let anyone know publicly. Pretty soon, we may all have access to near real-time high-resolution imagery! The article also has some amazing examples of images.
