RCL 2 Blog #2
For my passion blog, I want to do one surrounding documentaries specifically and dissect what was impactful about them to me and their meaning, similar to how I dissected more entertaining and artistic movies last semester. I think this could be a good opportunity to learn more about different topics because I don’t normally watch many documentaries other than a few from when I was younger. These documentaries could also include online video essays such as long-form YouTube videos about a certain topic, as many of these have similar levels of research and entertainment as high-budget documentaries, from creators such as Lemmino.
For my civic issues blog, I’m going to go with a dissection of divisive political debates in our current era, as well as researching both sides and coming to my own conclusion based on the sources I’m able to find. These topics could include psychedelics, GMOs, lethal injection, gun control, and more. This could also relate back to my passion blog idea, as many major civic issues have documentaries based on them, and these could be helpful tools in coming to a conclusion for my civic issues.
- Introduction
- Attention getter Have you ever felt like every day seems to go nowhere, even though you know you have things to work on?
- Context/ethos I used to live my life like a lazy slob, unable to keep with my promises and unable to get myself to work on the things I know I should.
- Thesis I believe that creating a routine to your daily life is important for achieving goals
- Preview First, I’m going to tell you how I lived before I habitualized my daily tasks, and then I’m going to talk about the change in my life once I implemented these changes.
- Body
- Cause, non-belief, Reason #1 Before I created a routine, I was a shell of my true self. Especially during the covid years, I would roll out of bed whenever I felt like, I would tell myself I need to do this or that, then I would end up watching YouTube, TikTok, or Netflix for hours at a time before I would go to bed far too late, beating myself up over not doing anything I set out to do that day.
- Subpoint Without routine, I wasn’t able to easily keep myself accountable.
- Subpoint Without routine, I didn’t create good habits for myself that would make it easier to succeed over the long run.
[transition to MP B] Then, I began scheduling the specific times of the day that I would do certain things the night before.
- Effect, belief, Reason #2 At first, it was extremely difficult changing how I lived, but I knew it would be worth it. I began regulating my sleep scheduling, working, eating, and relaxing during the specific times I allowed for during the day. This kept me in check with my time, and even made the time I spent relaxing even more enjoyable, because I savored every moment before I continued back to working hard.
- Subpoint My life substantially improved, and only continued to get better as time went on.
- Subpoint Keeping the schedule helped me create a constant expectation for myself to help me get out of the rut I was in
[signal closure]
- Conclusion
- Summarize main points At first, I was living in the worst period of my life, creating nothing of value and living off of other people, and barely living my life at all. Then I was able to switch it over to a regulated schedule and I was able to hold myself accountable and begin providing for others.
- Restate thesis Because of this, I believe that creating a routine can create the structure needed to achieve goals
Memorable conclusion If you find yourself stuck in a rut and unable to see a positive change in your life, try creating a routine. (Not sure what to put for this part, because this is not good and I know that)
I love all of your ideas! I’m a huge fan of documentaries and docuseries, so I’m really excited for those posts! If you need any recommendations, let me know! Keep up the good work. – VP
