Recently, Chick-fil-A received very diverse advertising.
I quote one of Kanye West’s new songs from his “Jesus is King” album. The specific track “Closed on Sunday” leads with the chorus, “Closed on Sunday, you’re my Chick-fil-A”. The song has very little to do with the restaurant other than acknowledging the company’s religious expression by staying closed on Sundays.
Other than the chorus there is no other reference to Chick-fil-A other than “You’re my number one, with the Lemonade” referring to Chic-filk-A’s classic sandwich.
Because the theme of Kanye’s album and specifically “Closed on Sunday” relates to Christianity and the family, Chick-fil-A receives free marketing and further branding for their already established identity.
Popeyes has also given Chick-fil-A some free advertising!
In August Popeyes added a chicken sandwich to their menu. While Popeyes expected and gained more media attention and business, they made a statement to other fast food restaurants who sell chicken sandwiches, especially Chick-fil-A.
Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich has been a menu staple for years, and Popeyes own version brought attention to both companies. David Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports and known for over 600 Pizza Reviews across the country, did a blind taste test with these sandwiches.
Even though Popeyes acquired media attention and a jump in sales, they created a discussion of who has the better sandwich between them and Chick-fil-A.
After selling out their product shortly after its release, Popeyes has brought back its sandwich permanently to their menu as of November 3.
The chicken sandwich debate hopefully will continue along with other factors at play such as customer service, quantity of the product, and time in line in the restaurant or at the drive thru.
I haven’t tasted Popeyes sandwich myself, but each time I’ve ordered from Chick-fil-A they give quality food and service.
I think Chick-fil-A has garnered this attention and potentially beneficial competition because of their loyalty to their Christian and family centered brand.
