Nutrient cycling in plants and soils
Our team studies nitrogen and carbon cycling in forests and agroecosystems. Some potential research questions include: Are cover crops impacting the function of the soil microbiome? How might microbes be playing a role in nitrogen cycling and retention? Can we use computer models to simulate the impacts of management practices on water quality? Students often use a series of soil incubations in the laboratory to investigate these questions. This year we are also offering research experiences based on simulation modelling or data analysis.  Students are highly encouraged to analyze and present their work at a university research symposium at the end of the semester.
