Mechanics of Growing Plant Cell Walls

Plant cell growth depends on the ability of the cell wall to enlarge irreversibly. This process is particularly sensitive to inhibition by drought. In this project we are combing physical and biological methods to characterize the mechanics of growing plant cell walls and how different mechanical measures relate to one another and how they are changed by physical and biochemical modifications of the cell wall.
