PAST STUDIES
Dried Plums and Bone Health in Postmenopausal Women
We recently completed a 12-month randomized controlled trial to evaluate the impact of 12-months of dried plums (i.e., prune) consumption in varying quantities on bone mineral density (BMD), bone geometry, and estimated bone strength in postmenopausal women. Over a 5 year period, we screened 638 women, randomized 235 into one of three intervention groups (control, 50g dried plum, 100g dried plum) of whom 183 completed the 12-month intervention. See more study information here. See our recently published case study from this study here.
REFUEL: Increased Calorie Intake to Reverse Energy Deficiency in Exercising Women- Impact on Bone and Menstrual Cyclicity
The Women’s Health and Exercise Lab completed the first randomized controlled trial (REFUEL) to assess the effectiveness of 12 months of increased energy intake on menstrual function in 76 exercising women with menstrual disturbances. See more study information here. See our recently published manuscript from this study here.
