Each year, Woskob Family Gallery commissions an artist to create a site-specific work for its 25-foot-high entrance wall. This year, artists Joelle Dietrick and Owen Mundy were selected from a national call for artists to create a new site-specific work, The Speed of Thinking.
Dietrick and Mundy collaborate on public artworks, digital games, and other works of art, with a focus on how data is pictured and visualized. The Speed of Thinking visualizes Dietrick’s research on seaports across the globe. A digital print with a dynamic video overlay, the piece will come to life each evening as Allen Street becomes engulfed in Fall’s early darkness. Visible throughout the night, the work will act as a light-filled beacon for downtown State College.
Joelle Dietrick (’96 BFA/BS, Penn State) is an assistant professor in the Art and Digital Studies Department at Davidson College in North Carolina. Owen Mundy is a visiting associate professor at Davidson College in the Digital Studies Department. The work will remain on view through October 2019.
Join us on October 18 for a reception, to celebrate the completed installation of the wall project, from 5-7 PM, with light refreshments included. This event is free and open to the public.
