Aeon Data for Measures and Metrics

Emilie Hardman, Stephanie Spires, and Moira Fitzgerald

Data collected through standard Aeon processes can provide or contribute to the metrics and measures recommended for standard collection and reporting by the ACRL/RBMS-SAA task force on the development of Standardized Statistical Measures and Metrics for Public Services in Archival Repositories and Special Collections Libraries. In this hands-on working session, we’ll explore possibilities for using some common tools with Aeon to easily comply with the standard’s recommendations.

Using built-in Aeon reports and custom searches, we’ll see that much of the data you may need is readily available and accessible. Some measures require a deeper dives and data linking for answers and insights, but using external tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, and Tableau which can be easily connected to Aeon, ArchivesSpace, and other data sources, we’ll look at how to query results, engage in analysis, and produce effective visualizations.

Join us to learn more about:

• The basic structure of the Aeon database
• Available connections between Aeon and ArchivesSpace data
• How to connect to the Aeon database using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau
• How to query for select User Demographics and Reading Room Domain measures to comply with the new Public Services Measures and Metrics Standard

Familiarity with Excel is helpful but not required. This session requires a laptop with the Remote Desktop Utility and Microsoft Excel 2013+ (2016 is optimal). Atlas Systems will provide a test server with sample data for remote connection during the lab portion.
