Write a whole book? You?

Who has time for that?

You do, if you know how to spend it! This site aims to help you, the prospective author, through the writing process with the goal of completing your first novel.

You don’t need to know anything about writing long-form fiction to use the links presented here – they’ll be useful to even the greenest of novelists. That said, it will be helpful for you to have some familiarity with literary elements. If you’d like to learn or refresh some of the basic background stuff, click here.

Written a book before? That’s fine too! These resources are useful for any author, though some are geared more toward first-time novelists.

This directory includes

  • Writing Guides – these resources will walk you through the writing process, character creation, and (among other things) the big, scary world of publishing.
  • Community – to improve your novel, it’s important that the manuscript is seen by other people (including other writers). This tab provides places you can go to get critique and support.
  • Software – choosing the right environment to write in is more essential than you’d think. These software offer different ways to construct your book, be it a more structured outline or a distraction-free word processor.

How to use this thing

You can click the above links, or the main tabs in the menu bar, to find lists of each type of resource. These lists contain a brief overview of each one.

If you’d like more information on a specific resource, select it from the resource list page (e.g. the Community front page has links to the NaNoWriMo and r/writing detail pages) or from the drop-down menus at the top.

You can find links to the external resources in the title of each detail page (e.g. click NaNoWriMo to go to the NaNoWriMo website).

Oh, you can also use that incredibly obvious navigation sidebar at the right. It says “Navigation.”

Happy writing!
