Though still in its early stages, Campfire is a comprehensive software for writers of fiction or nonfiction. Tools offered by the software include detailed, fill-in the blank character sheets, map-builders for your book’s locales, and a timeline constructor. These tools are nearly impossible to find online at the level offered by Campfire.
The software costs $25 for the basic version (allowing 50 character sheets) and $50 for the pro version (unlimited character sheets, upgraded worldbuilding suite). There is also a 10-day free trial, and optional Steam integration with the pro version. A new author looking for rigid and well-made planning tools will definitely want to invest in Campfire.
Tips:
– Know that Campfire is new and still unfinished. The developers release monthly updates in order to complete and expand the software. That said, it’s already very comprehensive.
– Remember that no tool is perfect. The services offered by Campfire can be too rigid at times, with a standardized character sheet and worldbuilding method. Don’t let any such tools dampen your imagination. If you’d like more freeform tools, look at Evernote.
