One Page Design

Three Website:

1. NU:RO Watch

This is a long-scrolling page of a watch brand called NU:RO. It features a perfect watch demo and a hover sensitive color change of the watch strap on the top page. There are also big product imageries and typography which grab the customers attention immediately. It establishes an overall clear style with a fairly simple idea executed with laudable refinement. It is successful as a business website for selling products because it presents the customers an engaging manner, and encourages people to spend time on the site seeing how the watch is designed and works.

2. First Principle Company

Also as a business website, First Principle works as strategic product design consultancy. The website has really neat touch of the square info-graphic with four shapes changing with the size of the phone into a one row info-graphic. It offers its company’s information, services, and achievements to attract the potential customers. It also allows users to be able to find their way easily to the key places with the neat and simple graphic arrangement. I think it is also successful as it achieves the first principle for designing a website in minimalist style and automatically makes the viewers’ eyes move from one content of the website to another through using deep or light colors of the graphics.

3. Greatdreams

This is also a one-page design, but you can tell that it has unsuccessful design because it is failed to provide useful information at the first glance. In fact, after I scrolled down nearly the end of the page, I realized that it is a website about information of Dreams, Dream Recall, and Dream Journaling. Although the whole website looks colorful and contrasting, it has a lot of too bright colors and there is no white space at all, which makes me feel tired after reading it. From my opinion, it looks more like a colorful painting than an online informative website. I think instead of using an one-page website, it should include some navigation to help the viewers to find relevant information.

Conclusion:

I believe that one-page web design is an effective layout method as long as the designers focus on Human Centered Design (HCD). This requires a better understanding of your target viewers and your web contents. After looking through many one-page web designs, I think this style is becoming a current trend and more and more companies are choosing it over elaborate multi-page sites to meet the needs of their businesses because it is not only cool for the layout, but it is functional and well-instructed. For example, one page site can provide a better mobile experience because it doesn’t load too much time and easier to navigate on a small device. This type of layout is perfect for individual portfolios, and business websites which don’t have too much text information. The combination of images, animations, and few words can be an effective way to attract the viewers’ attention. In the future, one page sites may evolve with the development of technologies with easier and faster way like loading several long videos at the same time in one page without taking too much time. In general, one page website is an awesome platform for web designers to evoke viscerally and emotionally satisfying emotion for the viewers.
