Global Trend
Undoubtedly, globalization has already become the primary trend in today’s world. Thanks to this trend, people can know and see countries and customs they’ve never known before.
However, many countries still get rare attention from the world. Their stories were not told, their lives were not guaranteed, and they didn’t have chances to spread their culture.
Cultural Imperialism
But Why is that happening? My answer is cultural imperialism. Perhaps they’re not intentional, but some stronger countries are imposing their effects on relatively more minor countries.
For example, the United States has developed a superior filmmaking system. Therefore, people like to watch movies and will be attracted by this country.
This allows the United States to spread its culture and deepen its international influence. In addition, other countries are more likely to learn filmmaking skills from the United States.
However, while learning skills from the United States, they also adopt traditional customs. As a result, their local style and culture get prohibited more or less, finally creating merely American-style movies.
It’s hard to solve this problem since nobody has the right to prevent other countries from progressing. They can hardly spread culture by themselves; they will need someone to help.
My Solution and Thoughts
As a media worker in the future, I would likely produce content about countries like this. My language diversity allows me to work on different continents and tell other countries’ stories in various languages.
Also, I think stronger countries such as China and the United States are usually focused on the world, not only because of their international influences but also their unique culture.
I believe there are still shining cultures and stories for us media workers to discover and show to the world. Therefore, I suggest current media focus more on smaller countries and tell their stories.
In the future, every continent will be connected closer and closer, and cooperation between countries will become more frequent if there is no accident. Under this peaceful global situation, intensifying understanding of different cultures is indispensable.
