While in the midst of a global pandemic, I found myself returning to nature a lot more than normal as a way of coping. I began noticing how humans think of the environment around us as a sort of supply cache; trees being treated as tubes that we cut and cart away. Moss being this thing that reclaims what once was a tree and now is a stump. If anything, the current state of the world has taught me that one day we may not be here and there will be other living things that will reclaim what we have done. In knowing this, guilt turned into calmness. One that I haven’t felt in years. This piece was intended to reflect that calmness.
