We are scholar-educators and staff members who serve in the College of Medicine and Penn State Health to advance humanism and humanistic health care. Department of Humanities activities include teaching, research, clinical care, community outreach, arts and healing, and ethics. Visit our faculty pages to find out more about us and our projects.
Individually and collectively, the members of the Department value diversity and inclusion in our scholarship, teaching, and service. We strive to end racism and other forms of discrimination, act fairly and respectfully to all, improve our understanding of inequality, and learn about the specific needs and experiences of communities and cultural groups that are under threat. As we do so, we are committed to fostering an environment of inclusivity and antiracism and to being learners in this process. The challenges before us are both communal and individual, and we welcome feedback and fellow travelers as we work to create a community of belonging.
Our mission is to advance humanism in medicine and society. Join us.
