Hey Y’all!
It’s two more weeks until the end of the semester, and I don’t know about you but I am exhausted! I just want to apologise in advance about the probable poor quality of this blog post.
So this week I decided to talk about healthy eating during finals week.
Finals week is an exhausting time and I know I certainly struggle to find times to eat. Because of this it is easy to snack on junk food. However, you also most likely don’t have time to be active or go to the gym.
It is also important to keep in mind that junk food is not good brain food.
Some examples of good brain food that are easy to bring to your various places to study include:
- Blueberries
- Various types of nuts and seeds
- Cold vegetables
- Dark chocolate
- Beans
- Lentils
- Split Peas
I hope you find this helpful!

Alright, so I felt bad about this post, and decided it really needed an update. While I do agree with what was written above, I truly apologize for the lacking quality of content. Therefore, I decided to expand on this topic.
So, first I am going to talk about what brain food actually is. I mentioned a list of good brain food above, but that doesn’t really mean anything to the average person. Brain food is food which is supposed to help boost your brain function.
There are four main types of nutrients and chemicals that are essential to improving brain function. They are glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, and antioxidants. Glucose is how the brain gets the energy. Amino acids help your neurotransmitters connect. Fatty acids help with your synapses, and as a result, your memory. Lastly, antioxidants helps you regulate the oxidation stress in your brain.
However, just eating good foods will not guarentee you a passing grade on your exams. While it may be tempting to pull all-nighters the week before, sleep is vital for succeeding. I am guilty of this same thing, and always seem to suffer for it.
Sleep is important because it restores chemicals to the brain. The main chemicals involved are Serotonin, Norepinephrine, and Adenosine. These chemicals help your brain regulate a plethora of things including stress response, heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, mood, metabolism and energy levels. This are all crucial to keeping your body going. If even one of those things are off, it could throw your whole schedule out of whack. This, in turn, will decrease your chances of memorizing and doing well on the exam.
So, now that you are all equipped with this knowledge, I expect you to all ace those exams!
