I have already decided that my deliberation topic would be on Sustainable Living. However, some of the blogs and forums I have looked into using have very slow “foot” traffic. I realize that I may have impeccable timing, and be lucky enough to comment on a post as soon as it’s written, but in the much more likely scenario, I won’t. Therefore, I have looked into other means of communication about Sustainable Living.
Someone mentioned in class that they had pondered using a New York Times or other newspaper article and commenting as soon as it was posted. Again, this seems like a game of Russian Roulette, but if I employ both methods, I feel confident that I will be able to have some interactions about Sustainable Living.
The New York Times is the most popular newspaper on the east coast, so naturally, it was the first website that I researched. Online, the New York Times has a Green Living Blog that is updated every so often, but it does not often get multiple comments. There are other articles that discuss Green Living that have higher foot traffic, but this really only occurs when the article is breaking-newsworthy.
As I was perusing the internet, I came across another article, originally published by the Guardian, but cited in other sources, that the French Government is requiring shop owners to turn off their lights at night. This was very interesting to me, since I can’t imagine the United States coming up with such a law. Many people commented on the article, so I think I’m going to try to look at more European websites, where it seems like Sustainable Living and “Going Green” are actual ideas, not just “tree hugger ideals.”
