In 1987, a high-tech satellite dish was installed next to the Olmsted Building.  The installation of the dish signified the beginning of telecommunication education on campus.  The goal was to provide all Olmsted Building classrooms with telecommunication capability, and be able to connect with other Commonwealth Campuses.  The campus would also be able to receive television programs from across the world.
