2014: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Gathered Over 100 Participants in Its Inaugural Year

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a global event that invites men to participate in an awareness campaign by walking one mile in high-heeled shoes. The idea is that “you can’t understand other people’s experiences until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes,” so the event serves to help men understand and appreciate women’s experiences by providing this preventative education.

The campaign was created in 2001 but first came to Penn State Harrisburg on April 8, 2014 when the Commission for Women sponsored it. Prior to the walk, in which about 100 men participated – an impressive turn-out for an inaugural year – individuals spoke about sexual violence and related issues.
