Researchers believe that time management is important and can affect an individual’s lifestyle and achievements. Abington students can benefit from improved time management skills. Since it is finals week at Penn State, managing time and goals are very important to succeed.

Hanne Keiling, a communications expert, says time management is a way to complete work and stay on time, creating opportunities to improve your grades and social life in a nice, organized way. There are four main skills you students should grow. These skills benefit anyone, from engineers to artists, who are graduating and are going into their career fields.

How to be successful

  • Organization

Sabrina Gupta, a licensed clinical psychologist, supports that being organized can help you see the goal you set clearly and make the process of hard tasks breezy. If you struggle with this area, you can seek help through Starfish or LionPath or just focusing on one thing at a time. Chris Walters a Professer at Pennstate Abingtion mentioned the power of focusing on one task to get started in a interveiw eairler on in the year.

  • Prioritization

The best way to get what’s due first is to prioritize the assignments and exams that come first and make sure to highlight the date. Renee Johnson, a researcher, writes about the best ways to use a calendar to stay on top of things.

  • Goal- setting

Always making a goal that is realistic is something Kat Boogaard, a contributing writer, mentions in her article about S.M.A.R.T goals. S.M.A.R.T. goals are a way to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time- bound goals to improve the success of the student. Setting both short term and long-term goals can benefit your current and future assignments that are given by professors and managers. A good example of a goal is to complete an assignment by a self setted date.

  • Communication

On Coursera, which offers many different credentials, being clear with your goals to yourself and others can help you gain a support system and a reason to keep going. Communication can also look like a wall of post-it notes with inspirational quotes or sticky notes on your bathroom mirror. A good example of a goal is too complete an assignment by a set base date.

Time management looks different for everyone; this can be seen in a University of Georgia article about time management strategies. Some do better electronically than pen and paper. Some apps that can also help with time management are Toggl, forest, and google calendar. Abington students can go to Starfish and request success coaching and they can help you succeed specifically for your semester and help you graduating on time.
