My reflection this week is based on a crucial conversation I had in the silliest of places: a concert. Yesterday, I had the privilege of seeing the one and only, Drake, live from the BJC! Little did I know that by seeking a fun experience with friends, I would leave with this memory as a more aware individual. Prior to the concert, I was under a lot of pressure because of scheduling classes, assignments, exams this upcoming week, and a lot of responsibilities. It didn’t help to visualize that we only have a month left till the end of the school year either. While getting ready for the concert and on the way to the concert, these subjects still burdened my mind, and even at the venue, I was sending emails to resolve these matters. But suddenly, Drake stopped his concert and went on to say that everyone in that room deserved to have a night of pure enjoyment, so we had to put everything else aside (if only for a few hours). At that moment, I looked down and was shocked to be sending emails in the midst of one of the best concerts I have ever been to. After that awakening, I have been more self-aware of the pressure I am undergoing and finding ways of mitigating my activities. It’s silly how a person speaking to thousands in the crowd and not even directly at me was able to shift my views and help me become more aware. It’s truly taught me that crucial conversations don’t always have to be straightforward just like growth isn’t a linear process. In retrospect, I 100% recommend attending a Drake concert; who knows, maybe it’ll change you!
