My Professional Philosophy

My professional philosophy embodies four powerful ideas: agency, encouraging learning, fairness, and responsibility. I strive, though imperfectly, to live according to these principles so I can have the maximum positive impact on others on their path in life

I respect agency. I believe that by helping others to be informed, I empower them to make decisions that will benefit themselves and others. I cannot force or coerce people to act a certain way, but help them understand potential outcomes based on their actions.

I encourage learning. I value learning of all kinds, not just the classroom. I view learning as both an individual and social process that takes persistence and struggle. We will make mistakes along the way and that is a natural part of the learning process.

I treat others fairly. This does not necessarily mean equally. Not everyone needs the same help or guidance to be successful, thus my approach and message varies from person to person based on what I perceive as being best for them at the time.

I value trustworthiness and dependability. I seek to be someone that others can trust and rely on; I expect others to live their lives the same way. We all have responsibility and stewardship over something. As I fulfill my responsibilities, I am helping to create a better world for others and I can encourage others to do the same.
