This bumper sticker presents a different idea to its viewers, as well as sharing whoever is using its views on one of the most popular topics of today’s abortion rights. It is inviting the public to have a voice, stance, and opinion on this governmental issue.

Red, most commonly associated with republicans, is present in this sticker, and in red, the words, Against abortion? From the start, we can interpret that these words are in color read because republicans are associated with standing against abortion. The Republican platform on abortion has four primary elements, one stating that unborn children hold the right to life that others should not infringe on because of the fourteenth amendment. There are no exceptions for abortions such as rape, incest, congenital disability, or risks to the mother’s health. However, these issues are controversial within the party, with some republicans believing in exceptions for these cases and others holding an unyielding pro-life stance. All in all, their mission is clear. They seek to end abortion.

Blue, representing democrats, is also prevalent in this sticker, and in blue, the words, Have a Vasectomy! The message can be interpreted that democrats stand for pro-choice. I believe this to be a dig at male republicans who stand so clear on the topic of abortion. I feel a sense of comedy and ridiculousness when I perceive this message. I find it funny because why can’t that be the solution if abortion is an enormous issue?

Implying women already sacrifice their bodies to growing a child. Why should they have to offer more? Why can’t men sacrifice, possibly because they are selfish and the idea of a vasectomy sounds uncomfortable? The ridicule should be pressed on men, not women. They are playing into commonplaces because the idea of being against abortion can be found anywhere. Ironically the people who advocate strongly and hold deep beliefs are the ones that don’t see any other solutions. The statement has a vasectomy is the ideology. Presenting a new idea to these strong advocators of pro-life for abortion that there are other solutions. They are challenging them to consider instead of making abortion illegal.

Passionate and interested in this topic, I invite others to encourage other solutions to this very relevant issue. I find that it is vital that we make good decisions, so we aren’t negatively affecting our society and its future. There are many cases where women are forced and pressured into decisions about their bodies, often resulting in a decision they don’t want, can’t manage, and, worst of all, can’t live with. It’s essential to be a voice for people who feel silenced, I thought this bumper sticker had a voice, and like when I saw it, I hope it stays with all that do.
