Matching sets are earning acceptance in the fashion world. These sets are the best trend to come back. Iconic, comfy, and an easy outfit that can be styled with nice shoes, a blazer, and an upscale hairstyle. These sets help you stay comfortable yet stylish.
The first popped up as a trend in the ’70s. Where many celebrities and models can be pictured wearing matching sets, inevitably, trends changed during the ’80s and ’90s, and so did the love for matching sets. While matching sets were out during this time, they still sparked the inspiration for designers in the 2000s.
Flash-forward to Juicy Couture and similar brands. They’ve monopolized these matching set trends through the iconic sweatsuits. The matchy-matchy sweatsuit was branded and seen on many influential celebrities of that era, such as the Paris Hilton. While that was in the early 2000s, more and more brands have made their own matching sets.
Over quarantine, the matching set fully reintegrated itself into fashion. Unsurprisingly, the trend came back during this time, when loungewear was what everyone lived in for a whole year. Our generation holds a love for the ’70s and Y2K fashion trends, so it’s not unexpected that we love matching sets. Loungewear matching sets were trendy during Covid-19. However, matching sets as everyday outfits are just as stylish. Matching skirts and cropped tops, matching pant sets and shorts, and the most famous one of recent matching workout sets. We can all agree that almost every brand, from Lululemon to Artzia to Gucci, has matching sets. Its become a staple and can often be found with its tab on their websites.
One of my favorite aspects of these sets is that I believe they promote body positivity. Many women experience discomfort when wearing super form-fitting clothes, but matching sets give women confidence and relieve this discomfort. Along with this, tons of women are pressured to pick out an outfit. I can attest that deciding to wear matching sets relieves my stress when I go to pick out a company.
Now for the real question, will these sets stay in style, or are they just another in-and-out trend?
I believe matching sets will probably go out of popularity eventually but on the other hand. These sets will certainly still have relevance in the fashion world. I don’t think they will ever entirely go out of style. Matching sets help you stay comfortable yet stylish and are hands down one of my favorite trends.
I am kind of a fashion connosuer myself and I really love it. I find matching sets an important set of clothing a woman can own. I agree with you that it does promote body positivity no matter the body type. I really hope that it doesn’t fall out trend and even if it does, it might make a comeback like a lot of styles.
I’m always here to learn more about fashion trends! I haven’t paid much thought to the matching sets because they don’t really fit in my style, but anything that can make women more confident and comfortable is a win in my book.
I absolutely love matching sets. While I have not worn a pair myself, I always get inspired when I’m walking down the road and see people rocking these sets (and have definitely looked for some on some websites). They have become so trendy since the pandemic started and they look amazing on everyone who wears them!
