PAS Post 6 – When romance meets comedy, they create some of the best films!

Romcoms, notably one of the best movie genres, holds a special place in my heart. Before I share a list of the best Romcoms out there, you need to know there are two types of Romcoms. First, Romcom will be more romantic over comedy, while Comroms will be more comedy over romance. For instance, the famous Julia Roberts film, Romcom Pretty Woman, would be considered more of a Romcom. Unlike Hitch, the hilarious movie with Will Smith is more comedy than romance. They are labeled Romcoms, but it’s essential to understand the difference when categorizing them. Now that you have standard criteria, I want to share why Romcoms are so special.

I would say I’m a hopeless romantic; I love…Love, lol. Seriously, though, I enjoy the different stories that have comedy and low points, where the character denies their affection for each other to end up admitting it at the end. Call it cliche, but I call it one of my favorite genres. While I wish I could talk about all of my favorite Romcoms in-depth, this post would be too long, so I will share two of the greats, which is very hard for me to decide because I am very indecisive and love them all so much, and then an honorable mention to some of my favorites.

Amazon.com: Fool's Gold [Blu-ray] : Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson, Donald Sutherland, Ewen Bremner, Alexis Dziena, Kevin Hart, Ray Winstone, Andy Tennant: Movies & TVFirst, starting strong with Fools Gold, featuring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. This film is about a deep-sea treasure hunter named Ben who is sure he’s onto the find of the century in waters near an island close to Key West owned by a murderous rap star with whom he is in debt. Ben is broke and recently divorced Tess, his long-time research and diving partner and ex-wife, whom he still loves. They run into each other because she is in the area working as a steward aboard the yacht of Nigel Honeycutt, a multimillionaire. Who ends up funding this treasure hunt, where the divorced couple has to work together to find the Spanish treasure and, along the way, rekindle their love for one another while also trying not to get killed by the rapper. It is a must-watch, and I hope after this post, you all now want to.

Hitch (2005) - IMDbMoving onto Hitch, more comedy than romance is one of my all-time favorites. Starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, and Kevin James, this story is about the eternal game of love. Alex Hitchens, known as Hitch, is a sophisticated matchmaker and New York City’s finest date doctor. He guarantees any man can get the girl of his dreams if he overcomes his fears and follows his infallible advice. However, when the timid accountant, Albert Brennaman, becomes his client, he overgoes obstacles. Albert needs assistance to catch the attention of the beautiful heiress, Allegra Cole. While helping Alberty, Hitch unexpectedly discovers his perfect match, a gossip columnist, Sara Melas. I will share all the details as I encourage all readers to watch it because it is worth it.

Now for Honorable Mentions (in no particular order)

  1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
  2. Pretty Woman
  3. The Wedding Planner
  4. Hitch
  5. 10 things I hate about you
  6. Failure to Launch
  7. She’s all that
  8. Can’t buy me, love
  9. 27 Dresses
  10. 13 going on 30
  11. What Happens in Vegas
  12. No strings attached
  13. Friends with Benefits

  1. I’m a huge romcom fan! I always end up watching one on movie nights. I haven’t seen your top two, so I’m going to add it to my watch list! However, I’ve seen a lot of your honorable mentions many many times, haha! Keep up the good work. – VP
