After taking a quick look through the results, it’s extremely obvious that I am primarily a RPG gamer, and more specifically an MMORPG gamer. The “types of fun” that came up the most seem to be Fantasy, Challenge, and Discovery. None of these are suprising to me. I really enjoy playing fantasy based games. A lot of the games I play take place in medieval type settings if not a completely made up setting such as Pokemon. Challenge definitely doesn’t suprise me either. I really can’t enjoy a game if there isn’t any challenge in it. In a lot of games I end up getting sucked into the more competitive aspects of the game. Things like World of Warcraft and Pokemon are a great example of this for me. I spent a lot of time in the recent past battling competitively in World of Warcraft arenas against other competitive teams with my partner. Pokemon is possibly an even better example than World of Warcraft. Over the past few months I have been training competitive teams and competing online just about every day, and I certainly haven’t stopped. I even carry my 3DS in my pocket all over campus. I’m sure you’ve noticed the giant brick in my pocket, that brick is actually a 3DS XL, which in retrospect was a poor decision because it doesn’t like being carried in pants pockets. Discovery is one of my favorite parts of a lot of games. I really like being able to explore the world for a long time and always find something new. Games like Pokemon are really nice to explore the first time around, but don’t have a whole lot of replayability as far as exploration goes. Games like the Elder Scrolls offer so much oppurtunity for exploration that you can just mindlessly explore for hours on end and always find something new.
