PAS: What would happen if there is a Super Moon?

In 2011 March 11th, there has been 9.0 earthquake in Japan, Tohoku. 20,000 people were sacrificed from this incident.

After this incident, there has been a theory that the earthquake has happened because of the Super Moon.

The curse of the Super Moon.

Then what is a Super Moon?
“A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Supermoons make the moon appear a little brighter and closer than normal.” As the moon does not orbit the moon in a perfect circle, the cycle is not constant. It cycle may take from few months to few years to reappear.

In 1979, an American astrologer Richard Nolle was the first one to use the name “Super Moon.”

In Eastern Asia, the Super Moon was believed as a symbol of abundance. There are several events to celebrate the rise of the Super Moon.

However, for some reason, there are more natural disasters when the Super Moon is out.
In December 1974, there was a great storm in Australia, Darwin. 80 people died, and 25,000 has been injured. And a few days later, the Super Moon was out in the sky.

In 2004, there was a tsunami that swept the island Sumatra in Indonesia had have scorched not only the island but also, Thailand and Shrilanka. And even this time, after 2 weeks from the tsunami there was the Super Moon in the sky.

The earthquake in Japan in 2011 March 11, after 8days there was the Super Moon.

With the appearance of the Super Moon after the massive natural disaster, there have been rumors that the Super Moon has terrible luck.

People believed that this is just a coincidence. However, in 2012 Texas, Pr. Donald Olson from Texas State University claimed that the sank of the Titanic in 1912 was also caused by the Super Moon.

Donald Olson and his research team was studying the sank of the Titanic for the 100th anniversary. Pr. Olson found that after 1400 years there has been the greatest and most significant Super Moon in 1912. With the announcement of this research, there has been news with the title of the ‘Curse of the Super Moon.’

Is there a real connection between the Super Moon and the natural disasters?

Pr. Olson theorized that the gravitational pull between the moon and the Earth becomes higher when the moon approaches closer. When there is the Super Moon, the gravitational pull is maximized. The ebb and the flow also increases and cause such natural disasters.

The sank of the Titanic is also caused by the maximized tidal tide that made a significant amount of the icebergs fled to the Atlantic Ocean.
Even the Pr. Ide Satoshi from the University of Tokyo claimed that for 20 years more than 5.5 earthquakes, 12 out of 9 was at the same time with the rise of the Super Moon.

However, an American geologist John Bellany, Kevin Horsburgh (Head of Marine Physics and Ocean Climate in the UK) and other many scholars claimed that the Super Moon can cause the tidal change, but does not affect lipid. The Super Moon has nothing to do with Natural disasters.

However…

In 2016, the biggest Super Moon after 68 years rose. And one day before the rise of the Super Moon, November 13, there has been a 7.8 earthquake in New Zealand, Kaikoura.

What do you think? Do you think that Super Moon caused all natural disasters? Or it’s just a story made up from fear?

  1. This post has given me so much to think about! I had heard of the Super Moon but didn’t really know exactly what that meant until I read this post. I think that there has to be some kind of connection between natural disasters and the super moon after all the examples you gave. I also enjoyed how you organized your blog post keeping the most recent example at the end after presenting the argument that there is no connection. It made me question whether it’s a made up story or true.
