Erina L. MacGeorge (Ph.D., Speech Communication, University of Illinois) is a professor of Communication Arts and Sciences at Penn State, where she also directs the Student Health Research Initiative, which supports research situated at the student health center or focused on Penn State student health. Her research examines interpersonal and health communication, with a focus on social support and social influence processes. She helped to develop advice response theory, which explains advice outcomes for recipients as a function of message, advisor, situation, and recipient characteristics, and recently edited the Oxford Handbook of Advice and a special issue on advice for the Journal of Language and Social Psychology. Over the past 4 years, Erina’s work has been increasingly centered on communication pertaining to antibiotic stewardship. Erina teaches interpersonal communication, communication theory, and health communication. In her free time, she likes to run and hike, garden, travel, and read mystery and fantasy novels.
