I have been a fan of TED Talks for many years now. My parents introduced them to me when I was in middle school and I was always intrigued by them. Throughout the years I have seen some amazing Ted Talks, so I honestly do not have one favorite talk, but I chose one to talk about.
The person who gave this TED Talk is one of my favorite comedians named Maz Jobrani. He has done two TED talks throughout his career and this one is his newer talk. He takes the stage in Doha, Qatar and opens up his talk with jokes, as expected. I’m a person who loves comedy and feels that comical relief in any sort of talk/speech eases tension and makes the talk/ speech more enjoyable and easier to listen to. The main thing I liked about how in the middle of his whole montage jokes he talks about his comedy. With his jokes, he is aiming to send a positive message about Middle Eastern individuals. He is Iranian-American, so many of his jokes focus on Iranians, but he also addresses all countries that are considered to be a part of the Middle East. He is also trying to break the stereotypes that people have of people from the Middle East and he feels that his comedy would help do that.
This TED talk helps me think of how I should give my talk. I would try to incorporate some comedy in my topic about Media Bias, but I couldn’t do it that much see how I only have a limited time to talk while this one is about nine minutes. This talk also helped think about the points of that I can make about my topic on how the news shows stories in various ways just like how people portray Middle Easterners in different ways. I’m still trying to work on how exactly I should give this talk, but this one definitely gave me a couple of ideas on how to approach it.
