Lately Disney’s “thing” has been remaking their animated movies and turning them into live action ones. Some Disney fans are loving the remakes and think that it is a great idea, while others don’t like them at all, and think that they should just stick to the original animated movies. 

I talked to a lot of Disney fans that I know so that I could get their opinion on this topic. I was not shocked to find that the older people (such as my grandmother, aunt, and my friends) liked the original animated ones better than the live action ones. I figured that this would happen, because these movies are what they grew up one, and that is exactly why they said that they liked the originals more. There were other reasons why they enjoyed the originals more. For example: My best friends Emma and Grace said that some of the characters in the new movies are extremely autotuned. Like Belle in the live action Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin in Aladdin. They said that they enjoyed the live action ones, but nothing could beat the original. Some of the things that they enjoyed about the live actions were the scenery, For example: in Aladdin they thought the costumes, the cinematography, and the set were absolutely stunning. 

On the other side of the spectrum the younger people (like my little sister and her friends) said that they enjoyed the live actions better. They said “the animation is too old and not good”. To say that my little sister is one of the most “woke” 10 year olds I have ever met, would be an understatement. She said she likes the live action Aladdin more because… and I quote… “Jasmine doesn’t take anything from stupid Jafar. He tries to shut her up, and she’s like ‘nope I’m a girl and I can say whatever I want’”. (Imagine her saying that in the most sassy way). That’s how it was for most of the live actions. They young girls loved the empowerment that the live action princesses gave them.  

Personally, I am a sucker for the original cartoon. I fall into the older category. I remember watching The Little Mermaid on VHS. These cartoons were my childhood. That being said, I also cannot deny that some of the new live action movies are amazing. Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast have to be the best live actions, in my opinion. I also agree with my sister and her friends. The producers and creators of the new live action movies are doing well with incorporating girl power and equality via gender in these new movies. I think that it is a great way to bring up the new generation of children, and of course with me being the Disney fanatic I am; I make sure that my little sister at least has seen the original animated movies.
