Soldier Spotlight

Soldier Hard

FALL IN!!! Today’s Soldier Spotlight shows the work of a very unique character, a rapper named Soldier Hard. Soldier Hard is a military veteran who began writing music during a tour in Iraq and has continued to write and publish music since. Soldier Hard’s bio can be found on his website stating:

A native Californian, Soldier Hard’s career began in Hip-Hop music performing in local bars & clubs in his hometown of Vallejo. He became inspired to write songs at the age of fourteen and at nineteen he enlisted in the United States Army where he found himself writing songs detailing the life of an Armed Forces Military Service Member. Soldier Hard’s belief in explaining to the world the “military life” led him to an opportunity to dedicate his music career to cater to military personnel, their families, and all military supporters. In doing so, he was given the alias “The Voice for our Troops” by those same supporters. Influenced by Abraham Lincoln for his determination to never give up, Pat Tillman for his selfless service to our country & Bob Marley for his musical & writing skills, combine all three and you get Soldier Hard. In 2005-2006, Soldier Hard was deployed to Iraq as a Lead Vehicle Gun Truck Commander. On his free time he began writing & recording for his CD, “The Deployment.” In 2007, after returning to Ft Bliss, TX he released “The Deployment” CD.

His work has been praised by critics for bringing to light the struggle soldiers receive both during deployment and as they return home. “Any troubadour can write a song about the war — almost none write from the side of having served in one. Soldier Hard brings the battle home in more ways than one.”  says Jennifer Maerz a reporter from the San Francisco Weekly.
