FASENMYER SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT ONLINE SHOWCASE

Welcome to the Penn State Behrend School of Engineering Senior Design Showcase. For over 25 years our Fasenmyer Senior Design Conference has celebrated the collaboration of students and industry sponsors on design projects from across the disciplines. For the first time ever we moved online in 2021, enabling visitors from around the world to join with us. We will continue to use the online platform in conjunction with an in-person conference on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Student Project information for 2024 will be available beginning in mid-April.  Please visit our Archive Section to view previous projects.

Each year the School of Engineering and our community look forward to the Fasenmyer Senior Design Conference and the opportunity to showcase the hard work that our students have performed to meet the needs of their sponsor. We are excited that we have returned to an in-person conference but we will continue to use this new site to show off our student’s accomplishments in a unique way. As you explore the site, you will see the same excellence and success of our teams and their projects, just as you have seen for many years. Please consider joining us on campus on Saturday, April 27, 2024. We are proud of our students and wish them the best in their future endeavors!

2024 Keynote Speaker

Greg Simon

VP of Engineering, Google

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s, Greg Simon was surrounded by individuals and companies making pioneering engineering and product achievements. After graduating with Electrical Engineering degrees from Penn State Behrend and University Park (BSEE 1995, MSEE 1997), his first major professional innovation was creating the web browser for the Apple Newton while still in graduate school.

Returning to Silicon Valley during the dot-com boom, Greg eventually landed at BMW, where he designed and launched the groundbreaking BMW iPod interface–a pioneering example of seamless integration between automobiles and consumer electronics. This achievement set the stage for an entire industry trend of deeply integrated consumer devices.

Later, Greg joined Palm, becoming the software technical lead for webOS and launching the iconic Palm Pre in 2009. webOS had groundbreaking features like simultaneous running applications, a UI completely designed using web technology, and wireless charging before that was a thing. Its software and hardware features, considered groundbreaking at the time, have become mainstays on popular devices of today.

Since 2011, Greg has been at Google, starting on the Chrome team and currently serving as VP of Engineering focusing on core operating systems.

Greg resides in San Francisco, CA.

Our students have invested so much of their time, effort, and resources to get to their senior year. Their capstone design project is the culminating experience of their education, and they are excited to show that they are ready to start their careers. The Fasenmyer Design Conference is a means to provide a showcase for them to share the results of their hard work over the past year. We are very proud of their accomplishments and hope that you find them interesting and inspiring.
